The surgeons ended up closing part of Zach's stomach during surgery, but also left part of it open. Closing the incision was going to cause increased pressure to Zach's lungs, so the respirator was taking over breathing today. They've also given Zach some medications that will induce paralysis today because they need to keep Zach totally still.

Nancy and Greg, Zach's parents, were expressing their thanks today for the friends of Zach's and their families who have come to visit recently. It's really lifted their spirits to hear how many people consider Zach as if he is a member of their own family, and to hear stories about what he means to them.

  1. Zach,
It's been hard seeing you go through such a hard trial, but I've been really touched by what a good young man you have become. You may not realize this, but when you were a little boy, you and Parker were what kept me going in life--I used to brag about you to everyone, and I lived for my visits to see you. It's been wonderful to hear the great things people have to say about the person you have become. I'm really proud of you and am praying for you.

  2. Here is something my brother wrote.

I heard the news about Zach Brimhall. That is definitely sad. But I do hope that he will make a speedy recovery. We have recently been working with a less active young man who was hit by 2 cars and dragged 200 feet. He barely lived and after 8 months is able to move around the house. It is a miracle he is alive. Sometimes stuff just happens. But that family has undoubtedly grown immensely. The biggest change seems to be in this young man. He is really dedicated to the Lord now, it is inspiring. So, as far as words of wisdom go, I don't have many, other than these: when the Lord turns up the flames on us it is not without purpose. You all now have a decision to make, whether to let this accident do what it was intended to, that is, draw you closer to the Lord. So trust that it will work out for your good. I love you all and Zach, I am praying for you buddy.

    Love,
    Elder Gustafson

  4. Greg & Nancy,
Christina and I are praying for you and your family. We have added Zach's name to the Salt Lake Temple Prayer Roll. Our Savoir Jesus Christ-- Zach’s elder brother-- is close and stands at his and your sides. He has provided many Ministering Angles whom are watching over Zach, the both of you, and your family. May God continue to bless your home with all that you now stand in need of at this time, and in the weeks and months ahead.

    Love,
    Gary and Christina Merrill
